For starters joining the cloud train, you need to have a cloud account which could be either Azure, AWS, Google, Oracle, IBM etc. These are all various cloud service providers but since AWS is the most popular and our focus, we will be giving guides on creating an AWS account.
Step1:
Go to https://aws.amazon.com/console/ and click on ‘Create a Free Account’ or login if you already have an account.
Step2:
Enter your email address, password and Account name (Account name could be anything) and click on ‘Continue’
Step3:
Select ‘Personal – for your own projects’ as option. Enter your details as requested and click on ‘Continue.
Step4:
Enter your card details. P.S: This is required to create an account with AWS, however, you will not be charged unless you use beyond Free-tier limit. This will be discussed in class. Click on ‘Continue’
Step5:
Provide a valid phone number, Click next, Choose a ‘Basic Plan’(Free).
Step6:
Activate your AWS account. A link will be sent to your email, open the email and click on the link.
Setting Up Budget (Lab)
This is very important so that AWS doesn’t charge you more than certain limit
Step1:
login to AWS console, click on your name at the top right corner and click on ‘My Billing Dashboard’
Step2:
Click on ‘Budget’ on the left side and click ‘Create a Budget’, select ‘Cost budget’ and ‘set your budget’
Step3:
Choose any name (ex: my-budget), period: Monthly, Specify month budget as ‘Fixed’, set Budget amount to $0.01. Leave other settings as default and select ‘Configure threshold’
Step4:
Set alarm threshold to 100% and enter your email address. Leave other settings as default. Click confirm budget. Done!!!
