There was a time when a complex password was enough to keep you safe but not anymore. Now you need extra and this is where Multifactor Authentication comes in.
Multi-factor authentication is an authentication method in which a computer user is granted access only after successfully presenting two or more pieces of evidence to an authentication mechanism: knowledge, possession, and inherence. Two-factor authentication is a type, or subset, of multi-factor authentication.
WhatsApp, among many other tech giants, has integrated 2FA into their products and services and this post describes how you can get it activated on your mobile device with Android in focus here.
1. Open WhatsApp, click on the 3 dots and select settings as shown below
2. Select Account option
3. Select Two-step Verifications
4. Enable it as shown
5. Enter your 6 digits PIN and make sure you always remember it. Verify the pin
6. Enter an email address which you can use to regain access in case your PIN is forgotten. Please use a valid email address
7. Confirm the email address
8. Steps Completed successfully
9. You will be required to enter the PIN one more time to show you still know it
